Cycles are everywhere.
Spring, my favorite season, is a brilliant display of a cycle. Nature’s infinite hope bursts forth every year in a bold display.
Life, of course, is present in every part of the yearly cycle, but in Spring, we see the beauty and newness of life so clearly.
It’s this repeating rebirth that reminds me of Hope and the connection to my story of dealing with loss and grief in my 20s.
The human Spirit and the Heart (which I talked about yesterday) know these cycles well.
The Hero’s Journey reflects this, as we tell and re-tell the same basic story of 1) knowing a challenge, 2) facing a challenge, 3) the results of meeting the challenge, and 4) the new truths and revelations we gain from coming to terms with the challenge.
Are You Finding Hope in Spring Cycles?
Here’s a simple technique for dealing with a challenging problem.
Find something beautiful in Nature, like a chrysanthemum (see the pic above). Stand before it. Bring your problem to mind and reconsider it (you have already been thinking about the problem often, I assume!).
Now, let go of the problem for a few moments and give your full attention to the chrysanthemum. Notice its intricate detail.
Reconsider your problem (again!) but this time, (go out on a limb with me) and ask the flower how to solve it. (This is unreasonable, but that's the idea, as you need a new point of view!).
Finally, relax and go on with your day, knowing that later, you will reflect on this process and see what your subconscious and the flower come up with.
The good news is this technique always works.
Because even if your problem is not "solved" you will have improve your life by spending a few moments with something beautiful that represents the eternal power of hope and growth.
And that is what life is truly all about.
P.S.
My Substack 30-Day Challenge is working! This is my 10th post, and my 7th podcast as I tell “My Story” and get to know Substack.
Do you love Substack? Why or why Not? For me, it’s got some special features that make this challenge work better than anything I’ve tried like it.
